With Halloween coming around in the states, this might be the best time to pull the ultimate trick or treat. We’ve seen enough scary costumes, horror hyped residences every neighborhood and an excess of cavity inducing delights in every convenience store you can think of. We believe we’ve found an app that will leave your friends more stumped than any halloween phenomena or run-of-the-mill trick. All they’ll have to do is use their minds.

“We Know Any Card” for both iOS and Android claims that it can figure out any card you can think of. Simply declare the card. From there, using the app, you will dial a call center to which one of the answering operators will tell you the card you chose. Sounds too good to be true? We thought so at first.
Main and Call displays for We Know Any Card
We tried this app with several friends first. We had an actual card deck (though it’s not required). After asking each person to choose a card, we fired up the app and used it to contact the “We Know Any Card” call center. Each time the call center was contacted, a different operator answered. It appeared the each operator was stationed on a different part of the globe. One spoke Mandarin before attending to our call. Another had a strong Indian accent. Later, another one appeared to be answering from Ireland. In any case, each time we contacted them, they were able to announce the card our friend had chosen without fail. Mind boggling to say the least. Our friends were indeed stumped.

Now for the trick. It has to be mentioned that the app does not make any actual calls. You can breathe a sigh of relief since it won’t mean any local or international charges. The app does come stocked with a bunch of pre-recorded responses, however those responses change depending on user input. At first thought, you might guess that there is some type of speech-to-text conversion, but the app would work even if your friend told you their card choice via sign language.

Once your friend announces their card choice, you then tap one of four quadrants on the “call” icon. Each quadrant represents one of the four suits - Hearts, Spades, Diamonds and Clubs. This gives the appearance of you innocently dialing the call center via the call icon. Once the display shows “Call In Progress”, a series of taps on the volume button of your device will register the card number. On iOS devices for example, pressing the volume button 11 times would register a Jack. 13 times for a King. 5 times for a 5.

And that’s all there is too it! The only improvement we’d make is having the tutorial being accessible at any time. The instructions are only shown to you once when you install the app. Whether on iOS or Android, the app asks you to screenshot the instructions. This is not that big of a deal as we understand that you wouldn’t want your onlooking friend to have any opportunity to uncover the trick. Overall, the app is nicely put together. The addition of having many “different operators” is a nice touch and keep the person you are about to trick out of the know! We Know Any Card is available for both iOS and Android.
