If you ask an app developer what makes the most successful apps successful, they might say, “Functionality, Functionality, Functionality”. Games follow this paradigm also. There are some games which need not prove themselves with glitzy graphics, overdeveloped intros and a myriad of power ups. Jump & Swap Flappy Tile dash is such an affair. Coupled with retro 2D graphics and exciting difficult gameplay, the game stands out from the crowd as a new crowd pleaser contender in the impossible game genre.
How Do You Jump And Swap
The objective is to jump from side to side in an endless city while trying to avoid smashing into buildings. Jumping is achieved by tapping on either side of the screen. This is where the “Swap” in the title gets its name. There is no swiping here. You are either on one side of the screen or the other. The game scrolls upward, so your job is to stay alive as long as you can. Some buildings protrude far from the center of the display. In this instance, you would most likely swap to the other side of the city since there would either be no building on the other side, or a very small one which can easily be jumped over. So in essence, you tap either side to swap, and tap on the side you are on to jump.
Issues
Jump & Swap is not for the faint at heart. It takes a while to learn how to effectively jump at the right time. It is so easy to collide into buildings and will be quite the task for anyone firing the app up for the first time. Once you figure this out, the battle will be staying alive. We managed to make it up to a score of 14, which involved 14 jumps. As you advance, the scrolling speed picks up and there are power ups. Grabbing one of the stars will make you invincible for a short while. Before it wears off, you can collide into buildings without penalty.
Verdict
Your first few attempts will make you realize why this game falls in the impossible genre. Jump & Swap is exciting, will keep you on the edge of your seat and frustrate you like no other. Put the flappy games down for a while and give this a try. You will have a hard time putting it down. A game like this is a testament to why great game play can trump overkill graphics and sound. For a price of free, you can’t go wrong.
