Jamaica has a rich 500 year history starting with the arrival of Columbus and the Spaniards in the late 15th century to the development of the reggae music genre and opening of Jamaican Culture to the world during the latter half of the 20th Century. Jamaican music, food exports, Rasta culture and the rich language mix known as Patois has had a cultural impact worldwide. Whether through appreciation or adoption, the world is well aware of the small island in the center of the Caribbean. If you don’t know much about the culture then Excelovate has an avenue for you to travel on. Candy Rasta gives you narrow insight on Jamaican foods, clothing style, places of interest and rasta culture. All you have to do is keep the Rasta away from the Candy.
Rastas Love Candy?
Your job in this game is too keep the Rasta from acting on his sweet tooth. Candy falls from the sky and your character has to swipe the candy as it falls. The rasta will appear from the bottom of the screen from time to time. If the candy gets into the Rasta’s hands, then it’s game over. In addition to candy falling, healthy Jamaican foods fall also! Asckee, Breadfruit, Jackfruit, Callaloo, Banana, Plantains and more fall down sporadically. Catch them while you can!
The game presents a bit of a challenge whenever the Duppy appears on the screen. While swiping candies and foods, if you advertently touch this character, it is game over. What we liked about the game was the background music, appearance of Jamaican foods and change in backgrounds. Once you hit enough targets (indicated on the top left corner of the screen which also shows you the amount of lives you have), you get to move to the next level. Passing each level rewards you with items such as Patties, Phone Cards, Smartphones and more.
Verdict
Between the cool music, Jamaican phrases being shouted out during game play (Bredrin, Mash It Up) and Jamaican food, we worked up a sweat and an appetite. If there was any game which showed Jamaican pride, this would have to be it. The game is different, simple, yet fun and informative. For the price of free, you can’t go wrong.
