One thing that will never get old is finding new ways to meet people to date. When the first dating sites proliferated in the late 1990s, online dating exploded, arguably giving rise to social media. In all honesty, even social media sites who advertise privacy on a multitude of levels have users who get bombarded with dating inquiries. With the dust settling in the early 2010s, many of the dating websites have spawned app counterparts and many of the dating sites have commonalities in terms of the features they offer and how they are navigated. Mingle2 however stands in front of the crowd because of all of the amenities if offers for free!
Get Out And Meet
If you have ever used any of the existing popular dating apps and sites, signing up and using Mingle2 will be a piece of cake. At sign up you are asked to choose a username, password and enter an email. You also have the option of signing up with Facebook which is a nice plus. From there, you will be prompted to upload a profile picture and then add a blurb and enter in information about your appearance, profession and hobbies. Once this is all set, you are ready to start exploring.
The main menu can be accessed by an icon in the top left hand corner. The menu allows you to access Home, Mail, Search, Mutual Match, Who’s Online, Your Activity, Forums and Settings. The Home screen allows access to several of the options in the main menu, but they are laid out in a two row, three column table with large icons. Underneath this are random profiles of people “you may be interested” displayed in a photo grid. After setting up your preferences, the app tries to match you with your preference. Tapping on any photo will take you straight to the profile in question. Other profiles will look identical to yours with stats such as Height, Race/Ethnicity, Age, Marital Status and Religion. Beneath the main profile pic are icons for Add As Friend, Nudge, Message Her and Match With Her. As you can imagine, nudge lets the person know you are interested. Add As Friend was a bit unusual but welcome. Mingle2 goes beyond typical dating sites and allows you to add friends you would do on popular social media sites.
Match It Up
Mutual Match lets you browse through random profile pics and either check them if you find them attractive and interesting, or bypass them. Checking them sends them a notification. If they want to reciprocate the inquiry, you will be notified. Search lets to define parameters and filter results to your liking. Only want to look up people who love hiking or who have a certain body type? You won’t find any problems taking care of that with Mingle 2.
To add fuel to a fire that is already burning hot, Mingle2 contains dozens of very active forums on a variety of topics. You can find everything from New Member discussions to Dating, Coffee Houses, Profile Rating, Poems & Creative Writing, Recipes and more. Not only will find these forums, but as we mentioned before they are very active to the tune of some of them containing more than 38,000 posts. Talk about a community!
Verdict
We are always skeptical when it comes to dating apps, but Mingle2 made us do a couple of double takes. The big selling point for us was the sleek interface is attractive and easy to get around. The fact that everything is available for free is something that should have you ready to install it. Many of the other dating websites require you to pay for amenities such as Mutual Match , Nudging and to even let you see who viewed your profile. We should point out that when we did a search for people in our area, thousands of profiles appeared. If you are looking for another avenue to meet Mr. or Ms. Right, Mingle2 should be highly considered.
